  • An elegant and refined Shiraz with abundant raspberry and cranberry fruit layered with perfumed notes of violet, spice, and plum. The red fruits drive through the palate with intensity and focus, supported by subtle oak. The Hunter Valley experienced a mostly dry winter with regular rainfall throughout September. In conjunction with the focus on a sustainable environment throughout the Mount Pleasant vineyards, this has resulted in some of the healthiest vines on the estate in recent years. The vines were picked on schedule for the most part, with healthy-sized bunches of expressive fruit and no disease pressure across all sites.

The grapes were carefully selected, destemmed and chilled to open top fermenters. A short cold soak was followed by fermentation with selected yeasts. During vinification, the wine underwent three daily pump-overs, to oxygenate the wine and extract the desired levels of colour, flavour and fine tannins. The wine was pressed just prior to dryness and racked to tank before undergoing malolactic conversion and was matured for nine months in French oak puncheons of which 20% were new.

An elegant and refined Shiraz, with an abundance of raspberry and cranberry fruit layered with perfumed notes of violet, spice and plum. The red fruits drive through the palate with intensity and focus supported by subtle oak.

The Shiraz vines were planted in 1946 in a single vineyard plot named Rosehill. These low-yielding, old vines have deep and complex root systems. Maurice O'Shea purchased the land during World War II and the site is now regarded as one of the elite vineyards of the Hunter Valley. Once the site of volcanic activity, the Rosehill Vineyard is located at one of the Hunter Valley's highest elevations. This 22-hectare parcel of volcanic loam soil, with limestone and eroded basalt patches, is fertile and ideal for producing full-flavoured red grapes. O'Shea devoted it solely to planting Shiraz. The vineyard is cultivated using sustainable techniques, such as employing mulch to nourish the vines and growing cover crops to increase the biodiversity in the soil. This sustainable approach has resulted in some of the healthiest vines on the estate in recent years; the vines have developed plentiful canopies which have assisted in preventing sunburn of the fruit. The grapes are hand-harvested.
