North American Red Wine

Our list of North American Red Wine producers from the finest regions containing award winning wines throughout the USA and Canada. Chimney Rock Chimney Rock takes its name from the rock formations on the Palisades behind the winery which resemble chimney stacks. Established in 1980 by Hack and Stella Wilson, the first vintage of Chimney Rock Estate wine was produced in 1984. In the early 1990s, the Cape Dutch-style winery and tasting room were added to the estate, complete with the allegorical frieze of Ganymede - cupbearer to the gods. In 2000, the Terlato family joined the Wilson family and in 2002, the remaining land, covering 18 hectares, was planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2004, the Terlato family assumed sole ownership of the estate and ensures the highest standards in viticulture and winemaking. Chimney Rock now comprises 48 hectares of vineyard, divided into 28 distinct blocks, allowing for highly specialised viticulture suited to each specific site and is certified as a ‘Napa Green Vineyard & Winery’. Led by notable winemaker Elizabeth Vianna, Chimney Rock’s award-winning wines have firmly cemented its reputation for producing some of the world’s greatest estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Far Niente One of the classic wineries of the Napa Valley, Far Niente derives its name from the Italian phrase 'Dolce Far Niente' - 'how sweet it is to do nothing'. It was founded in 1885 and flourished until the advent of prohibition. Abandoned for over 60 years, the winery was purchased in 1979 by Gil Nickel who started the long process of restoring it. Today, they own 80 hectares of vineyard, across three different sites, of what many consider to be some of the finest viticultural land in the Napa Valley. Since restoration, Far Niente has been dedicated to the production of the finest Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon and worldwide demand always exceeds supply. Language of Yes Randall Grahm is a legend of California winemaking, renowned for his trailblazing work with Rhône Varieties in the Central Coast. ‘The Language of Yes’ is his latest project, an attempt to capture the essence of Old World wines through the ‘uniqueness of the vineyards and the (mostly) sunny disposition of California’. ‘The Language of Yes’ or La Langue d’Oc, is the term that the medieval people of Southern France used to describe who they were by how they spoke. The aim is to craft wines preserving the old ways, revealing the utmost respect for the integrity of the sites form which they derive. The raising of the wine involves the lightest possible touch, allowing the natural exuberance of the vines, the grapes, the wine and the winemaker to joyously emerge, unmistakably pronouncing The Language of Yes.
