His two hectares of family-owned vineyards cling to the precipitous, schistous slopes of the Spitzer Valley. Johann cultivates sustainably and holds the Vinea Wachau sustainable certification. He manages the vineyards to give incredibly low yields, and his production is minuscule, but his prices remain competitive despite this. Many wineries in Austria pick with a proportion of Botrytis-affected grapes to add sweetness, but Johann believes this distracts from his exceptional terroir. His wines age incredibly well, and his multi-award-winning wines and rave reviews attest to his methods and approach.
