- 95 Points "Very dark in the glass, this showers the nose with complex aromas of dark cocoa, black olive, peppercorn, tar, espresso and mint. There's a creamy and focused cassis kick to the sip, but it's the slightly bitter coffee and charred earth aspects that are most compelling.
A new Cabernet from a major winemaking talent. For many years the head winemaker of Daou Vineyards, Anthony Versochi has finally decided to start making some wines under his own name and label. In this he’s been lucky to have the full support of his mentor Danny (and therefore the extensive use of the superb Daou facilities – not to be sniffed at!) I met Anthony in May, at the top of Daou Mountain. Sitting in a beautiful tasting room with views across half of Paso Robles and one of his superb bottles in front of us really bought the wine in the glass to light, a perfect distillation of that glorious, rolling countryside, studded with vineyards and the other marks of careful viticulture.

Winery | This is the first vintage of a major talent – and we are very happy to have signed up as his representatives in the UK at such an early stage. Taking the freedom to experiment with winemaking technique, he has crafted a cabernet that is distinctly his own. Using intensive heat control to carefully finesse the tannins and acidities has left a wine with superb balance and poise, weight and richness. |
