The Picpoul de Pinet appellation overlooks the idyllic Thau Lagoon and its oyster huts. Here, the culture of the vine is paramount, and some plots of land have maintained their size and position since ancient times. Piquepoul Blanc is a fresh, zippy variety that is responsible for the Picpoul de Pinet wines that have helped to put this flourishing French region on the map. The terroir is made up of clay-limestone plateaus, rich in Cretaceous limestone and laden with quartz pebbles. The vineyards are dominated to the north by limestone hills dating from the Jurassic period. The Ormarine vineyards are cultivated using sustainable practices known in French as la lutte raisonne and since 2018, the winery has been certified by Terra Vitis. The use of sexual confusion of predators is used to limit phytosanitary treatments. .

Winery | A region steeped in history, the vineyards of Pinet gained recognition as far back as Roman times when the Via Domitia traversed the vineyards, and in 1618 the Piquepoul variety was quoted by the famous botanist JB Magnol in his book Sylve Plantarium. The history of the Ormarine Cellars dates back one hundred years, when in 1922 a group of winegrowers from Pinet gathered in the spirit of solidarity and formed a winegrower’s association, with the aim of enhancing the quality of the white wine production of the region. Recognition came in 1985, when Picpoul de Pinet was classified as an AOC. The Ormarine Cellars have paved the way, from Terra Vitis sustainably certified vines, they produce crisp, refreshing fruit-driven wines from this fashionable appellation. |
