- Alvarinho, sourced from carefully selected small parcels of Alvarinho intended to express the terroir and wines' sense of place. Fermentation and ageing took place in oak. Full malolactic fermentation was carried out for 4 months and then total ageing in the oak barrels took 9 months in the presence of lees without stirring them. Upon commencing his own venture Luis' idea was to create uncompromising wines, the wines he wanted to make that were authentic expressions of the region. His winemaking is minimal intervention, and the style very much reflects the concentration of care lavished by this experienced winemaker on his tiny output: pure yet complex, more savory than fruity, with a density of texture and long, almost salty finishes marking the wines out as something very special. Only a few years on from a stunning debut vintage, Luis's reputation has spread and his wines are now on tight allocation.

Winery | Luis Seabra may be a new name on the Portuguese wine scene, but he has already had a hand in crafting some of the Douro’s most exciting wines, working as Dirk Niepoort’s right-hand man from 2004 until leaving to set up his label in 2012. He is starting small, producing just 5,000 bottles of each of these three wines. Winemaking is minimal intervention, and the style very much reflects the concentration of care lavished by this experienced winemaker on his tiny output: pure yet complex, more savory than fruity, with a density of texture and long, almost salty finishes marking the wines out as something very special. Luis Seabra is certainly a name to watch but has also hit the ground running with a stunning debut. |
