  • A delicate peach-blossom-pink color. On the nose, its alluring bouquet offers aromas of pineapple, pink grapefruits, and apricots accompanied by floral sensations of jasmine and orange blossoms. The palate is pleasantly fresh, savory closing with a pleasing citrusy finish. A wine that shows the charm of balance in contrasts. A reminder of the energy and beauty of natural elements that is combined with an extraordinarily elegant and graceful soul.

Each grape variety was hand-harvested separately, destemmed, and gently pressed. The must was chilled to a controlled temperature of 12 °C (54 °F) to allow for natural clarification and then transferred to stainless steel vats where alcoholic fermentation took place at a constant temperature of 16 °C (61 °F) to preserve and enhance aromatic compounds of each grape variety. After several months of aging on the lees in stainless steel vats, and after meticulous tastings, the various lots were blended. The wine was then bottled and later released for sale.

Tormaresca is made up of two estates in different areas of Puglia: in the central, inland region of Castel del Monte they have Aglianico, and in the Salento peninsula of the extreme south-east, Primitivo and Negroamaro. Cabernet and Chardonnay are grown in both zones, giving the winemaker a broad palette from which to blend the very consistent entry-level wines. Antinori only invested here in 1998, yet in that time Tormaresca has become a flagship of Puglian production: Torcicoda combines the soft fruit of Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) with a definite Italian edge; Bocca di Lupo borrows the Aglianico variety from further west to thrilling, blackberryish effect; Masseria Maìme is regularly one of Puglia’s best, made from its greatest local grape, Negroamaro. Pietrabianca is the Cervaro of the south, its freshness, and elegance belying its hot-climate origins. All the vineyards are planted unusually densely, giving extra depth to the wines.
