- This is a stunning example of a restrained, cool-climate Chardonnay. Intense citrus aromas and classic soft fruits, jasmine and walnut, are layered with honey and vanilla notes. The palate is beautifully balanced with refreshing, crisp acidity and a distinct minerality. It is concentrated and refined, with a crisp, clean citrus finish.
Having pioneered a new extremely cool climate region in South Africa, Samantha chose to release an Estate Reserve range to illustrate what the vineyards are capable of. The wines are produced from very low-yielding vines. The vineyard is planted 300 meters above sea level in the foothills of the Sonderend Mountain Range. The vines are grown in decomposed shale over clay soils and are dry-farmed, contributing to the wine's deep concentration. Low mean temperatures during February contribute to an extended ripening period, resulting in a harvest period three to four weeks later than in traditional wine-growing regions in South Africa. The intense citrus notes and the lingering finish are consistent trademarks of Lismore's specific terroir. This Chardonnay's distinctive minerality clearly indicates the cool climate in which it is grown.

Winery | Californian Samantha O'Keefe has found paradise and the perfect terroir. Tucked into the foothills of a dramatic mountain range at the bottom of Africa, Lismore Estate Vineyards was born alongside her nascent family. A passionate vision, combined with vines planted at 300 meters, chilled by winter snow and nourished by the African summer sun, produces rich, complex, lovingly hand-crafted classic cool-climate wines. |
