- Somewhat curiously given the natural coolness of Chambertin, this seems noticeably riper than the '03 Clos de Beze (see herein) with notes of mocha, spice, earth, and markedly ripe black currant aromas. There is an excellent size, weight, concentration, and power to the big-bodied and extract-rich flavors that coat the mouth before culminating in a lightly mineral-inflected, velvety, and as the nose suggests, mocha-tinged finish. This is more 2003 in basic character than the Beze though as is usually the case, it's more structured as well though with 45 minutes in a decanter, this too could be drunk now with pleasure. That said, I would be inclined to give this at least 6 to 10 more years first though please be aware that this will be capable of holding for decades.
