Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2014

  • Country USA
  • Region California
  • Grape Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Case size 12 / 75cl
  • The nose shows seamless, pure fruit and sweet tobacco leaf highlighted by dark berry and black cherry with cocoa hints and ripe blue and red fruit. • The 2014 HL Cabernet Sauvignon is more fruit-forward than the 2013 with sweet, ripe fruit flavors and a lovely, graphite backbone. The nose shows seamless, pure fruit and sweet tobacco leaf highlighted by dark berry and black cherry with cocoa hints and ripe blue and red fruit. In the mouth, the wine is lean and crisp, yet focused and plush, showing ripe, fresh blackberry and cherry fruit and dark, bittersweet Bakers cocoa. The entry is velvety, with fine tannins well integrated into the wine, chalky but not astringent, reflecting the 80% new French oak used for aging. While very approachable on release, it is still big, bold, and expressive and made for the long haul. The structure, weight, and depth of flavors in this wine will allow it to age gracefully for a good decade to come.

Quiet icons of the Napa Valley, Herb, and Jennifer Lamb purchased their house and adjoining seven acres of land in the foothills of Howell Mountain in 1986, immediately digging out the terraces and planting exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Herb Lamb Vineyards were founded by Herb and Jennifer Lamb in the late 1980's and by 1992 were selling to the gamous Colgin Cellars. In 1997 they released the inaugural vintage of their own Cabernet Sauvignon. Made by Michael Trujillo, these continued to be some of the most respected Cabernet's to be produced from St Helena today all through to their final vintage in 2016.

Their first vintage in 1990 produced small quantities of exceptional fruit that were immediately appreciated by winemakers from across the valley, including no less than Ann Colgin, who used the vineyard as the sole source for her signature wine for the next 16 years. Herb and Jennifer first produced under their own label in 1997 and continue to limit production to a mere 3-400 cases per year.
