Flambeaux Vineyard Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2019
Flambeaux Vineyard Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2019
- Country USA
- Region California Sonoma County
- Grape Zinfandel
- Case 6/75
- 93 Points "2019 Zinfandel Flambeaux Vineyard comes from an estate vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by a classic Zinfandel perfume of plum, blueberry, and strawberry fruits, a layered, medium-bodied, silky mouthfeel, light tannins, and ample cedary spice and brambly herb-like nuances. The balance is spot on, and it should evolve nicely for 7-8 years, although there's no need to delay gratification."

Macerated strawberries with peppercorn and an earthy forest floor aroma. Some boysenberry pop persists through the electric palate. Some spicebox and chili-dipped watermelon hints at the liveliness with darker plum fruits coming on towards the end to make for a long and rich finish.
"What I love about that is you get both dark and ripe characteristics as well as light and vibrant qualities in every cluster. This makes for a lively and interesting wine that pairs with more things than it doesn't!" ~ Winemaker Ryan Prichard

Winery | Flambeaux was founded by Art Murray, a native of New Orleans. Art's exposure to the wine world began professionally, working with Donelan Family Wines as an environmental lawyer. Thinking this looked like a lot of fun, he plunged in and bought a beautiful spot in Dry Creek Valley, in a landscape full of famous neighbors. Despite settling in happily to the new community, Art's been clear that his roots matter - hence Mardi Gras's Flambeaux supplying the name and images for their gorgeous wines. Art quickly explained his history with the vineyard. Ryan Prichard was the first employee to come on board, bringing a wealth of experience from Williams Selyem and his other project (Three Sticks). Ryan's focus on Chardonnay explains the brilliant succulence of the Sangiacomo release; his love of Pinot is why the Zin is so soft, so silky. It's a Zin for people who want elegance. |
