Light garnet in color, vivid aromatics of rhubarb, tangerine zest, fresh cranberry, and juniper are immediately apparent while intriguing notes of eucalyptus, chanterelle mushroom, plum skin, and green tea linger in the background. Focused and precise, with velvety tannins that frame the wine's plush core as well as the lengthy and cohesive finish. The Melville Estate Vineyards and Winery are situated just north of LA in the unique microclimate of the Santa Rita Hills. Here the Humbolt Current, which pulls cold air all the way up the Pacific Coast from Antartica, abruptly turns inland, bringing refreshing Pacific air and strong winds up into the otherwise warm hillside vineyards. The result is extraordinary diurnal shift and the longest ripening season in California, making for grapes that achieve incredible levels of complexity and ripeness whilst retaining wonderful acidity. Consistently rated as one of the top 100 wineries in North America, Melville Estate take this fantastic base material and, through careful vinification practices produce wines of elegance and complexity that clearly show their unique terroir.
