The Pinino estate vineyards are located in the north of Montalcino, embedded like a natural amphitheatre into the beautiful and famous hillside of Montosoli. This distinctive geographical location has become known as one of the best areas of the region for wine production. The Sangiovese grapes are grown in north-west and north-eastern facing vineyards, situated at an altitude of 310 to 320 metres. The lower temperatures allow the grapes to express their finesse. The Brunello di Montalcino comes from the more vigorous plots, which are grown in soils with a higher quantity of clay and limestone. The vines are trained according to a spurred cordon method. The vineyards are cultivated sustainably and are certified by Agriqualit ; copper and sulphur are the only treatments employed. The grapes are exclusively hand-picked at optimal maturity. Each vineyard is divided in micro-sections and the vinification is tailored to each section.
The Pinino winery is based in the picturesque town of Montalcino in Tuscany and has a long winemaking history, dating back to 1874. Since 1950, Pinino has been inscribed in the Brunello register of winemakers, and in 2003, Spaniard Max Hernandez and
Austrian Andrea Gamon pursued their passion for producing quality wines and purchased the estate. For Max – whose father had been a winemaker in Toro – it also signified an adventure leading him back to his family’s roots. Together they have invested in the estate, they quadrupled the cultivation area to 16 hectares with the addition of the Canchi vineyard and transformed the estate, producing world-class wines. The vineyards are cultivated sustainably, following the Agriqualità standards. This family-run winery produces award-winning wines with incredible structure, elegance and great longevity.
