- green pepper, some spice, and menthol. The palate is rather tart and dry but not in an aggressive way -- savory in the most positive sense. The texture is what really stands out, coats the mouth, and leaves a streak of acidity that lingers. It has a lot of the elements of 2011 that are controversial but I actually think this is a fantastic wine for the vintage, one that would work brilliantly as part of a meal. Still young in its evolution but becoming approachable.
This is offering strong, rich and ripe fruit on the nose. Beautiful, but unique on the table. More soil, earth, and some cellar aromas are present as well. Very rich and large in the mouth. Sweet fruit is present on a round, smooth texture. Soft, slight barrel funk present here as well. Rich soil tones, with a green herbal component pokes through. Some stemmy notes on the finish (though none are present in this wine), more green notes of herbs, and quite a lot of spice. Tart and rich, puckering slightly bitter notes are what linger into the finish.
Here the nose is sufficiently reduced that it is hard to read though the underlying fruit appears ripe. There is a supremely elegant mouth feel to the silky and lacy flavors that dance across the palate before culminating in an ultra-pure, long and beautifully well-balanced finish. This is one very classy effort that is textbook Mitans. 91-93 points Allen Meadows, Burghound /2019
