Wine Description:
The Petrus Pomerol 2018 is a remarkable expression of the iconic Bordeaux estate, offering a sophisticated and evolving wine that balances intensity with elegance. Initially muscular and introverted in its barrel form, the wine has transformed during its élevage, now displaying an unexpected sensuality and charm. This vintage delivers enticing aromas of ripe cherries, mulberries, rose petals, violets, and a touch of liquorice, creating a fragrant bouquet that promises both complexity and refinement.
On the palate, the 2018 is full-bodied, ample, and fleshy, yet it maintains a lively, suave profile. The seamless texture and bright, perfumed finish elevate the overall drinking experience, revealing a harmonious interplay of fruit, florals, and subtle earthiness. The racking out of the barrel two months earlier than usual has contributed to an unusually broad drinking window for this vintage, allowing the wine to be enjoyed over a longer period of time.
While still young and capable of further ageing, this wine's immediate charm is undeniable. Petrus Pomerol 2018 evokes a similar profile to the estate's 2011 vintage, offering both power and finesse in equal measure. For collectors and enthusiasts, this is a wine that will age gracefully, with a drinking window extending from 2027 to 2061.

Winery | From barrel, the 2021 Pétrus was decidedly muscular and introverted, but élevage has certainly tamed it, delivering a much more sensual and charming result than I could have imagined. Offering up aromas of ripe cherries, mulberries, rose petals, liquorice and violets, it's full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a suave, seamless, lively profile and a bright, perfumed finish. This wine, racked out of the barrel two months earlier than usual, will offer an unusually broad drinking window. In style, it reminds me somewhat of the estate's 2011. Drink 2027-2061. |
