Wine Profile – Échézeaux Grand Cru 1998
This 1998 Échézeaux Grand Cru is now gracefully evolving from its primary stage. The bouquet is deeply expressive of Vosne-Romanée, showing vibrant blueberry and red cherry fruit, layered with earth, spice, and a touch of game. These aromas precede a harmonious, mid-weight palate, marked by mineral precision and finely integrated tannins, finishing with length and finesse.
While currently drinkable with significant pleasure, collectors and connoisseurs may prefer to cellar this wine for another 3 to 5 years to reach peak maturity, with a drinking window extending up to 15 years from now.
“90 points” – Allen Meadows, Burghound (September 2010)
“The nose is approaching maturity with classic Vosne spice, game, and earthy red berry notes. Long, subtle and refined.”

Winery | This is no longer so completely primary, and while the nose has not yet reached full maturity, it is approaching it slowly but surely. The aromatic profile is very Vosne with ample blue and red berry fruit aromas cut with spice, earth and discreet game hints that lead to delicious, round and largely, if not completely, resolved middle-weight flavours that display subtle mineral nuances on the long and lingering finish. While this could certainly be drunk now with pleasure, for my taste, I would advise leaving the '98 Ech in the cellar for another 3 to 5 years and then drinking over the next 10 to 15. 90 points Allen Meadows, Burghound, (9/2010) |
