Wine Description:

The Peterson Winery Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2019 is a stunning wine that showcases the dynamic and expressive qualities of Sonoma’s Dry Creek Valley. A blend predominantly of Zinfandel, with additional contributions from Petite Sirah, Carignan, and Grenache, this wine is an exceptional example of California winemaking.

On the nose, this Zinfandel has a subtle yet inviting aroma of ripe berries intertwined with a touch of toasty oak. As the wine coats the palate, its luscious and ripe fruit flavours take centre stage. The bright, juicy notes of blackberries and raspberries are complemented by a rich, well-integrated oak presence, giving the wine complexity and depth. The tannins are restrained but provide just enough structure to support the abundant fruit, leading to a smooth and seductive finish that lingers elegantly.

The winemaking process was designed to preserve the purity of the fruit while highlighting the unique character of the 2019 vintage. Utilising natural yeast fermentation, the wine underwent gentle techniques, including punch-downs and rackings, which helped to enhance its aromatic and flavour profile. Following fermentation, the wine was aged for 25 months in a combination of new and neutral barrels, with 9% new American oak, 13% new Hungarian oak, and 78% neutral oak barrels. This careful ageing process helped to further develop the wine’s complexity while maintaining a balance between fruit and oak influences.

The result is a wine that is both elegant and robust, with a long-lasting finish that invites you back for another sip. It pairs beautifully with grilled meats, rich pasta dishes, or aged cheeses.

The Dry Creek blend is a wine that reflects the overall Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel terroir instead of a single-vineyard character. The grapes come from five carefully selected vineyards -Funsten, Bradford Mountain Estate, Bernier, Forchini, and the West vineyards throughout the appellation. Each vineyard has its distinctive soil type and microclimate, providing a cross-section of Dry Creek Valley typicity. The sustainably cultivated vines are head-trained, pruned and dry-farmed. The only treatment used in the vineyards is sulphur dusting, and the vines are hand-harvested at optimal maturity.
