A Bold Expression of Argentine Terroir

The Masi Tupungato Passo Blanco 2024 is an exceptional white wine that embodies the best of Argentina’s high-altitude vineyards and innovative winemaking. Crafted with precision, this unique wine blends two contrasting yet complementary grape varieties – the aromatic Torrontés and the elegant Pinot Grigio. The result is an aromatic explosion that captures both the exuberance of Argentine terroir and the finesse of Venetian winemaking tradition.

Produced exclusively from organic grapes, this wine reflects the commitment to sustainable viticulture. The Torrontés grapes, known for their lively aromas and exuberant flavour profile, form the backbone of the wine, providing a fresh, fruit-forward character. Meanwhile, the lightly dried Pinot Grigio adds a layer of complexity, bringing a touch of dryness and a sophisticated, refined finish that mirrors the classic style of top Venetian whites.

The innovative "Appassimento" technique, a drying process that concentrates the flavours of the grapes, is key to the wine’s remarkable depth and richness. This method, combined with the purity of organic farming, ensures a wine that is both elegant and bold, with a balanced structure and bright acidity.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, Masi Tupungato Passo Blanco 2024 presents an explosion of citrus, floral notes, and hints of tropical fruit. A light touch of honeyed richness lingers, offering a sense of fullness without overpowering the wine’s freshness.

Masi chose the Tupungato Valley in Mendoza, Argentina, as the site for its ‘‘Vigneti La Arboleda’’ company. Here, native grapes from Venetian regions are planted alongside emblematic Argentinian varieties—Malbec and Torrontés —to make wines using the appassimento method from Valpolicella, in which Masi is a recognized specialist. The estate is totally eco-sustainable and farmed organically. The exceptional biodiversity of the area has led Masi to establish a botanic garden open to visitors.

One of the most original winemaking projects in recent years, Masi Tupungato, is a fusion of Venetian technique and Argentine terroir. Passo Blanco sets the scene with its blend of grape varieties. Still, Passo Doble goes a step further: two-thirds of Malbec is re-fermented with lightly dried Corvina, enhancing depth and savouriness while maintaining balancing acidity. This experiment has been successful and full of spicy fruit with great body and length!  Since 2015, the wines have been certified organic.
