  • "The 2013 Pinot Noir Tripp’s Block comes from the Perli Vineyard in the Mendocino Ridge. This is based on Dijon clones 667 and 777. It spends 18 months in oak, and the percentage of new oak is about 30%. A slightly larger-scaled, more savoury wine than the Two Brothers, the wine exhibits a deep plum/ruby colour and notes of sweet black cherry and berry fruit, along with some underbrush and forest floor. The lovely texture is savory, round, juicy and very pure." 91 Points Robert M Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2016-2026

To achieve this goal, they always recognise that next year will bring another step on the road. They believe that the best wines are not made but discovered and take pride in harnessing the greatest qualities and natural variations in a vineyard and a variety.

Winery

Founded by Joe Donelan, who now runs the business alongside his sons Cushing and Tripp, Donelan is a small, boutique Sonoma winery producing Syrah, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Roussanne and Viognier. Producing just 8,000 cases per year, they prize quality over all other factors. They are becoming known for their exceptionally small-release bottlings of vinous experimentations: clonal varietals, site-specific variations, and the like. This factor has turned them from being a first-class winery to being internationally recognised for leading this type of small-batch production.

They believe that the best wines are not made but discovered and take pride in harnessing the greatest qualities and natural variations in a vineyard and a variety. The aromatics remain fresh and youthful, yet below the surface lies mystery and complexity – herb-encrusted lamb, graphite, freshly-cut lavender, and cherry liqueur. The wine's palate starts with a distinct sensation, like the first spoonful of chocolate mousse, followed by a complex and structured mid-palate that cradles a very full and compelling finish.
