Tasca Rosso del Conte 2019 Wine Review
Introduction to Tasca Rosso del Conte 2019
The Tasca Rosso del Conte 2019 is an exceptional red wine from one of Sicily's most renowned wineries, Tasca. This flagship wine, crafted from a blend of two indigenous grape varieties – Nero d’Avola (58%) and Perricone (42%) – offers an extraordinary expression of the island’s terroir. Hailing from the Palermo region of Italy, this wine brings together the region's rich heritage and modern winemaking techniques to create a balanced, elegant wine with impressive ageing potential.
Tasting Notes of Tasca Rosso del Conte 2019
On the nose, the Tasca Rosso del Conte 2019 reveals an incredibly complex and intense bouquet. The vibrant aromas of wild berries are intertwined with subtle notes of walnuts, cinnamon, and tobacco, inviting you to experience its depth before even tasting it.
The palate is full-bodied and opulent, delivering a concentrated flavour profile that combines thrilling old-vine depth with remarkable finesse and elegance. The 18-month maturation in French oak barrels imparts an elegant structure and a hint of spice that elevates the wine's vibrant fruit character. In its youth, the wine is exuberant, energetic, and vibrant, while with age, it develops a velvety texture that maintains its focus and balance without losing its fresh progression of flavours. The evolution over time also brings out a harmonious interplay of power and refinement, ensuring the wine’s continued allure as it matures.
Winemaking Process
The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, contributing to the wine’s complexity and structure. Over the years, Tasca Rosso del Conte has undergone various stylistic changes, including different barrel techniques such as chestnut, Slavonian oak, and small French oak barrels. Despite these variations, the wine consistently retains its unique character and exceptional quality, showcasing the meticulous care put into its production.

Winery | The large Regaleali estate, high in the central Sicilian hills, has been in the hands of the noble Tasca family since 1830. Ever since, the property has been run according to the best principles of the agricultural aristocracy, with one eye firmly on quality and the other on experimentation. Tasca’s large range is the product of the family’s most successful innovations, including short pruning for lower yields, the championing of local Inzolia and Nero d’Avola vines, the introduction of French varieties, and the use of barriques and temperature control. They have also been developing vineyards outside their main base at Regaleali. There is wonderful passito Malvasia made on the Aeolian island of Salina, and more recently, the family established their Tascante estate on the north-facing slopes of Mount Etna. The tradition and terroir of each location are captured with great clarity in the bottle. This is a singularly accomplished and increasingly complete range of Sicilian wines. |
