| Winery | While the origins of Sagrantino are unclear, it has found its home in Umbria, where it has been the most widely planted for centuries. The vineyard is in DOCG Montefalco Sagrantino, directly opposite the hill town of Assisi in Central Umbria. The hilly terrain is rich and mineral, with clay-calcareous soils and good water retention properties to sustain the vines through the long, hot summers. Sagrantino thrives in the Montefalco terroir. The vineyard benefits from gentle breezes in this hillside location, which aerate the vines, keeping them healthy. The spur-cordon-trained vines are planted at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare and produce low yields. The vineyard is cultivated to ensure the soil is balanced, biodiversity is preserved, and the grapes are hand-harvested in the early morning hours to maintain freshness and fully express the essence of the land. |
