Buy Bouchard Père & Fils Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus Premier Cru 2021 Online

Experience one of Burgundy’s most iconic Pinot Noirs with the Bouchard Père & Fils Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus Premier Cru 2021. This exceptional red wine, produced from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, showcases the finesse and complexity of the Beaune Grèves Premier Cru appellation, where Bouchard Père & Fils has held a rare monopoly since 1791.

Tasting Notes: Rich, Velvety, and Elegantly Spiced

On the nose, this Premier Cru Pinot Noir reveals superb aromas of ripe red berries, subtle spice, and a refined touch of French oak. The palate is beautifully balanced—intense yet delicate, with a silky texture and charming velvetiness. Notes of cherry, raspberry, and clove give way to a long, harmonious finish. Aged 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels (40–50% new oak), it offers exceptional depth, structure, and ageing potential.

  • Aged in 40–50% new French oak for added complexity and longevity

  • An excellent cellaring wine, drink now or age for 10–20 years

The History Behind "Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus"

The name "Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus" ("Vineyard of the Infant Jesus") dates back to the 17th century. According to legend, Marguerite du Saint Sacrement, a Carmelite nun, predicted the birth of Louis XIV, the future Sun King of France, at a time when Queen Anne of Austria was believed to be sterile. In honour of this miracle, the Carmelites named their prized vineyard in Beaune "Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus." Following the French Revolution, Bouchard Père & Fils acquired the vineyard in 1791 during the national property sales—and retains exclusive ownership (monopole) to this day.

The name, which translates as “Vine of Baby Jesus”, refers to an old story. It is said that Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement, Carmelite founder of the “domestiques de la Famille du Saint Enfant Jesus”, predicted the birth of King Louis XIV of France. However, his mother, Anne of Austria, was barren. Nine months after the prediction, on 5 September 1638, the future Louis XIV was born. The reputation of Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement then spread throughout the land, and donations were poured in. In this atmosphere of fervent giving, the Carmelites received a renowned vineyard named “Vigne de l’Enfant-Jesus” (Vine of Baby Jesus).
