About ArmAs Winery – Reviving Armenia’s Ancient Wine Legacy
Armenia is widely recognized as the birthplace of wine, with over 6,100 years of documented winemaking history. Founded by Armen Aslanyan, ArmAs Winery revitalises this heritage on 180 hectares of estate vineyards set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Ararat.
Winemaker Emilio del Medico combines traditional techniques with modern innovation, producing wines that are elegant, balanced, and distinctly Armenian in character. The estate focuses on native grape varieties, including the indigenous Karmrahyut, meaning ‘red juice’, renowned for its deep colour and intense flavour profile.
Vineyard – Aragatsotn Province, Armenia
The ArmAs vineyards are located between 700–1,900 meters above sea level, providing ideal conditions for slow, balanced ripening. With 300 days of sunshine per year and cool summer nights, the grapes develop concentrated flavours while maintaining freshness. The soils feature a unique blend of volcanic, limestone, and clay layers that nurture Karmrahyut vines to produce deeply coloured, complex fruit.
Winemaking – Traditional Meets Modern
Each grape is hand-selected at optimal maturity. Fermentation occurs at 25–27°C using selected yeasts, followed by monthly bâtonnage for rich texture. The wine is aged for 24 months, split evenly between Artsakh oak barrels for subtle vanilla, cinnamon, and clove notes, and French oak barrels for refined oak spice and elegance.
Tasting Notes – Bold, Exotic, and Elegant
The ArmAs Karmrahyut Reserve 2015 offers a perfumed, complex bouquet of cranberries, cherries, and plums, enhanced by dried lavender, white pepper, and exotic spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with mineral-framed deep fruit and a lingering, robust finish. Ideal for pairing with grilled red meats, aged cheeses, or a special celebration.
