Tasting Notes
Smooth, Powerful and Elegant
This is a full-bodied and smooth wine, with the bold fruitiness of Sangiovese uplifted by the structure and depth of Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate reveals layered flavours of:
-
Juicy blackcurrant and ripe strawberry
-
Hints of vanilla, spice, and dark cherry
-
A persistent, silky finish with impressive length
Winemaking & Terroir
Named after the charming hamlet of Liano, this wine is rooted in the unique terroir of Castel San Pietro in Emilia Romagna. The vines, averaging 20 years old, are grown on calcareous and clay soils, ensuring exceptional grape quality.
The 2022 vintage was shaped by a warm winter, a brief spring frost, and a hot, dry summer. These conditions led to reduced yields but enhanced flavour concentration, resulting in a powerful, aromatic wine.
Ageing & Vinification
-
Fermentation in custom tanks with extended skin contact
-
Aged 18 months in 5HL Allier oak tonneaux
-
Bottle ageing for 6 months before release

Winery | This wine is named after the small and picturesque hamlet 'Liano' on the hills above Castel San Pietro in Emilia Romagna. The vines, which have an average age of 20 years, are grown in calcareous and clay soils. For Umberto Cesari, producing good wine in Emilia Romagna was a family tradition. Umberto and his wife Giuliana started their company in 1965 when they bought 20 hectares of land in the hills. Their ambition was to turn Sangiovese into a great wine, reflecting the typicity of the area. The winery has continually expanded, and today, the estate extends over 355 hectares divided into distinct vineyards: La Casetta, Parolino, Cà Grande, Laurento, Liano, Claterna, Miravalle and Tauleto, each of which provides the perfect micro-climate for the vines planted. Their estate is sustainably cultivated and certified sustainable by SQNPI. As pioneers of quality, this family-run estate wins numerous accolades every year and has been awarded 'IWSC Italian Winemaker of the Year' four times in the last 15 years. The estate is now in the hands of Umberto’s son, Gianmaria Cesari, who follows in Umberto's footsteps. |
