Wine Description
The Torre de Ona Finca Martelo Rioja Reserva 2016 is a stunning expression of modern Rioja winemaking. Crafted from 95% Tempranillo with a small proportion of other varieties, this wine showcases the unique terroir of La Rioja Alta, offering a harmonious blend of tradition and contemporary finesse. The 2016 vintage is characterised by its impeccable structure, fine aromatic complexity, and exceptional balance.
Upon the first sip, the wine unveils an array of ripe, dark berry fruits that are elegantly complemented by subtle notes of liquorice, clove, pepper, and a hint of balsamic. These flavours are framed by the wine's silky texture and velvety tannins, leading to a long, smooth finish that lingers on the palate. The extended growing season in Rioja Alta, which marked one of the longest harvests in recent history, allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, ensuring excellent fruit quality and depth of flavour.
With its perfect phenolic ripeness and concentrated character, this Reserva offers a wine of great intensity and aromatic allure, with remarkable ageing potential. The wine’s superb balance, combined with its elegant finish, makes it a perfect pairing for a wide variety of foods, from grilled meats to rich, savoury dishes.

Winery | The grapes come from the eponymous vineyard in Torre de Ona, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, with a natural diversity of varieties: Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Garnacha and some Viura. The vineyard is over 60 years old and lies at 630 metres elevation, with a north-to-south orientation, which offers the vines excellent exposure to the sun. Ventilating winds help to keep the vines healthy and achieve excellent, even ripening with balancing acidity. La Rioja Alta is committed to protecting the environment; in the limited vineyard treatments, they invest in clean energy sources and reuse water. Shelters Some vineyards have been installed for certain insects and arachnids that are beneficial for viticulture, thus promoting environmentally friendly plant health defence and increasing the biodiversity in the vineyards. |
