The Tasca Tascante Contrada Rampante Nerello Mascalese 2019 is a stunning expression of Sicily's volcanic terroir. Originating from the Contrada Rampante, this wine offers an extraordinary balance between the region’s bold volcanic influence and the refined elegance of Nerello Mascalese. Despite its pale colour, this wine exudes remarkable concentration, enveloping the palate with sweet red fruit flavours—ripe cherries, raspberries, and subtle notes of dried strawberries. These fruit characteristics are perfectly complemented by a savoury, meaty richness and a hint of earthy minerality, reflecting the unique volcanic soils of the Etna region.
A gentle touch of spice lingers on the finish, adding complexity to this well-rounded wine. The tannins, bold yet finely grained, provide structure without overwhelming the fruit. This wine showcases the exceptional quality of the Contrada Rampante vineyards, where volcanic formations, aged between 15,000 and 4,000 years, lend their distinctive character to the grapes.

| Winery | The large Regaleali estate, high in the central Sicilian hills, has been in the hands of the noble Tasca family since 1830. Ever since, the property has been run according to the best principles of the agricultural aristocracy: with one eye firmly on quality and the other on experimentation. Tasca’s large range is the product of the family’s most successful innovations, including short pruning for lower yields, the championing of local Inzolia and Nero d’Avola vines, the introduction of French varieties, and the use of barriques and temperature control. They have also been developing vineyards outside their main base at Regaleali. There is wonderful passito Malvasia made on the Aeolian island of Salina, and more recently, the family established their Tascante estate on the north-facing slopes of Mount Etna. The tradition and terroir of each location are captured with great clarity in the bottle. This is a singularly accomplished and increasingly complete range of Sicilian wines. |
