Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru 2004 – Exceptional Grand Cru Pinot Noir from Burgundy
The 2004 Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru is a compelling expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most iconic producers. This vintage sharply illustrates the difference between Chambertin and Clos de Bèze, offering a cooler, more powerful profile with greater richness and structure.
This wine reveals medium-full body, reserved yet tightly woven fruit, and a remarkably pure aromatic character. It showcases a restrained spice profile with linear structure, firm tannins, and a long, dusty finish that reflects its Grand Cru pedigree. The wine’s high dry extract creates a superb mouth-coating texture, balanced expertly by its precise tannic spine.
Awarded 93 points by Allen Meadows (Burghound, Jan 2007), this is not just an outstanding Burgundy—it’s a serious investment for fine wine collectors and an exceptional choice for long-term cellaring.

Tasting Notes
“Cooler, bigger, richer and more powerful than Clos de Bèze in 2004. The medium-full flavours are tight and precise with perfect punch and balance. Mouth-coating dry extract supports the firm tannins beautifully. While not the greatest Rousseau Chambertin, it’s certainly on the threshold.”

Winery | The difference between Chambertin and Clos de Beze is sharply etched in 2004. This is cooler, bigger, richer, and more powerful, though less elegant, and with a more limited range of spices, specifically aromatic breadth. The medium full flavours are reserved, tight, precise, and pure with perfect punch and precision, all wrapped in a firm, dusty and linear finish. I particularly like the mouth-coating quality of the flavours, as there is ample dry extract here, which serves to buffer the firmly tannic spine perfectly. It's outstanding stuff, and while not a truly great Rousseau Chambertin, it's knocking on the door. |
