Wine Description:

The Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2006 is a striking example of the power and elegance that can emerge from this esteemed Burgundy vineyard. Known for its deep concentration and complexity, this wine presents an intriguing departure from the usual expressive style of Clos de Bèze. With yields in 2006 dropping to a mere 17 hl/ha, the result is a wine that is significantly more restrained, yet no less remarkable.

The nose offers a subtle yet enticing introduction, with delicate spicy red berry aromas that seem almost reserved at first. On the palate, this wine showcases a profoundly concentrated and brooding character, with superbly powerful and focused flavours. The structure is solid, marked by firm tannins that provide excellent backbone and give the wine an undeniable tension, suggesting remarkable ageing potential. The finish is youthful, slightly dry, and austere, with a sensation of energy that lingers on the tongue, but without the same level of phenolic ripeness typically associated with the Chambertin. In fact, the 2006 vintage of Clos de Bèze displays such a cool and backwards nature that it evokes more of the traits found in Chambertin, rather than its usual Clos de Bèze identity.

While still in its youth, this wine holds immense promise for ageing, with an ideal drinking window extending from 2018 and beyond. It’s a wine that speaks to the intricacies of vintage variations and showcases the true potential of the Armand Rousseau estate.

(from yields of only 17 hl/ha in 2006) This departs from its normal expressiveness by being much more restrained and, if not backwards, then at least relatively reticent on the spicy red berry fruit nose that quietly introduces very concentrated, brooding, superbly powerful and equally well-focused flavours underpinned by substantial tannins and plenty of underlying tension as you can sense the energy here on the youthfully austere and ever so slightly dry finish that doesn't have the same phenolic ripeness level as the Chambertin. It's interesting because this is so cool and backward that in 2006, it's more Chambertin than Bèze. Drink: 2018+
