Tasting Notes:
The Saint Clair Marlborough Barrique Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is a refined, complex expression of Marlborough’s signature Sauvignon Blanc. A wine that balances elegance with depth, it opens with an intriguing bouquet of gooseberry and vanilla pod, setting the stage for a symphony of aromas. The nose is layered with subtle notes of wildflowers, butterscotch, and a touch of gunflint, adding an intriguing earthy complexity.
On the palate, this wine offers a rich and unctuous texture, where the fruit-driven flavours of ripe papaya, nectarine, and cocoa powder meet toasted hazelnut. The wine’s structure and body come from its barrel fermentation, which imparts a delicate roundness to the overall profile. This is a full-bodied Sauvignon Blanc with a unique expression, showcasing both the typical crispness of Marlborough fruit and the complexity of barrel ageing.
With its fine balance of fruit and oak, the Saint Clair Marlborough Barrique Sauvignon Blanc 2021 will appeal to those who appreciate a more sophisticated take on the classic Sauvignon Blanc style.

Winery | The grapes come from three rows of vines in one of Saint Clair's best vineyards in the lower Wairau subregion of Marlborough. The vineyard soils are nutrient-rich and free-draining. The maritime climate and proximity to the sea create a high diurnal temperature difference, resulting in a long ripening period, concentrating the fruit flavours while retaining refreshing acidity. The fruit is left to hang a week longer than the fruit for Saint Clair's traditional Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are hand-harvested, with only the highest quality bunches being selected. |
