Tasting Notes
On the nose, this wine opens with an alluring bouquet of blackcurrant, enhanced by hints of cedar and spice. As it evolves on the palate, the wine reveals rich chocolate undertones, which are complemented by the vibrant and expressive fruit notes of ripe raspberry, blackberry, and warm plum. These intense flavours are supported by the Cabernet Sauvignon's characteristic depth, resulting in a well-balanced structure. The body is smooth yet substantial, showcasing plush tannins that gracefully carry the wine to a velvety, lingering finish.
Winemaking and Terroir
The Raymond Vineyards Reserve Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a testament to the expertise of winemaker Stephanie Putnam. Sourced from the finest vineyards in Napa Valley, this wine reflects the region’s world-renowned climate and soils that allow the grapes to ripen slowly and develop concentrated flavours. The blend of varietals contributes to the complexity, with the Petit Verdot adding structure, Petite Sirah bringing richness, and Merlot offering a soft, approachable character.

Winery | The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were sourced from selected vineyards in the Napa Valley from Oak Knoll to north of Calistoga, with the majority of fruit coming from estate vineyards. The grapes were picked early in the morning hours to retain freshness. The vineyards are diligently monitored throughout the growing season to balance the crop size and quality. Shoot thinning and leaf removal early in the growing season, followed by cluster thinning at véraison, help to achieve evenly ripened grapes with concentrated flavours. Raymond Vineyards, founded in 1970, is one of the Napa Valley’s pioneering estates. The Raymond family arrived in Napa in 1933 and have become deeply connected to the valley’s winemaking origins. In 1970, they established a 36-hectare estate in Rutherford, which now comprises 121 hectares in St. Helena and Jameson Canyon. Raymond’s Rutherford and St. Helena estate vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic, and 100% of the winery’s power comes from renewable solar energy. Napa Green and the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance accredit them. Five generations of the Raymond family have created a Napa icon with an enduring reputation for elegant wines and a beautiful balance of finesse, opulence, and complexity. |
