A Silky, Elegant Pinot Noir from Burgundy
The Pierre Naigeon Marsannay Sampagny 2020 is an exceptional expression of Pinot Noir from the renowned Burgundy region. This wine showcases a refined complexity, featuring delicate aromas of hedgerow raspberry, vanilla, and rose, with a subtle hint of spice on the finish. The 2020 vintage reveals an outstanding balance of texture and structure, making it a perfect choice for those who appreciate well-crafted Burgundy wines.
2020 Vintage: A Warm and Early Growing Season
The 2020 growing season in Burgundy began with an unusually mild winter, followed by a clement spring. A particularly warm April accelerated the budburst and flowering phases, setting the stage for an early and rapid growing season. Hot, dry summer conditions, combined with low rainfall, created arid conditions in the vineyards. Fortunately, cleansing winds helped protect the vines from disease, ensuring the production of high-quality grapes. Harvest occurred earlier than usual, leading to wines with excellent balance and a refined finish.

Winery | Marsannay is the northernmost appellation in the Côtes de Nuits and is the only appellation with AOC status for producing red, white and rosé wine. The climate is continental here, with warm, sunny days during the growing season, and cool evenings, allowing for the fruit's gradual ripening with natural balancing acidity. The vineyard is situated in the lieu-dit of Sampagny, where the vines are cultivated traditionally. The soils are diverse, predominantly sandy marl and mica with limestone pockets. Pierre believes in respecting the terroir; he ensures the yields are kept low and follows organic and biodynamic principles, considering the cycles of the moon and the sun. The vineyard is certified organic, weeds are controlled by soil cultivating, and chemical herbicides and insecticides are not used. Only organic and natural products are employed to protect the vines against insects, and natural biodiversity is encouraged. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal maturity. |
