Wine Description
The Pelissero Vanotu Langhe Barbaresco 2020 is a captivating expression of the Nebbiolo grape, showcasing the elegance and complexity that Barbaresco is known for. This medium-bodied red wine is beautifully aromatic with an intricate bouquet of ripe raspberry and cherry, intertwined with floral notes of rose and herbal hints of sage, mint, and thyme. The palate reveals a symphony of sweet tannins that lend it a velvety texture, while the finish lingers with remarkable persistence, offering a sophisticated and lasting impression.
The 2020 vintage of this Barbaresco benefited from a unique weather pattern that ensured the grapes ripened to perfection. After a mild winter, the early spring was dry and sunny, suggesting an early harvest. However, a rainy May and June slowed the ripening process, providing the vines with necessary water reserves. The most critical stage, September, was marked by mild and dry conditions, which allowed the grapes to thrive and reach optimal ripeness. This climatic balance contributed to the balanced, refined structure of the wine, with ideal fruit and tannin development.

Winery | The Vanotu is the most prestigious of the Pelissero vineyards and produced its first wines in 1960. Replanted in 1964, it lies between 300 and 350 meters above sea level and faces completely south. It is on the border of all three municipalities of the Barbaresco production area: Treiso, Barbaresco, and Neive. It forms part of the enclosure of one of the most beautiful valleys in the region. The vineyard is well-ventilated near the top of the hillside, resulting in very little disease pressure. The favourable microclimate and southern exposure guarantee regular growing seasons, even when other parts of Barbaresco do not fare well. The soil, particularly limestone-rich, produces elegant wines of great personality. They always clearly reflect the vintage with notes of sage, mint, rose, chamomile, thyme, and many other aromatic herbs that only certain privileged parts of the Langhe can express. 'Vanotu; is the diminutive in the Piedmontese dialect of Giovanni, Giorgio’s grandfather and previous vineyard owner. |
