Tasting Notes

On the palate, the Pelissero Tulin Langhe Barbaresco 2020 reveals a rich tapestry of flavours. The wine’s fine tannic structure provides a delicate yet persistent finish, with layers of mineral complexity that speak to the high quality of the terroir. Its balanced acidity and mature fruit flavours reflect the skill of the Pelissero winemaking team, offering a wine that is both approachable in youth and capable of ageing gracefully for years.

The 2020 Vintage

The 2020 vintage of Pelissero Tulin Langhe Barbaresco began with a mild winter and an early, dry, and sunny spring. While the rain in May and June slowed the development of the grapes, it also helped replenish the soil’s water reserves. The highlight of this vintage was the perfect weather in September: dry and mild temperatures during the crucial ripening period allowed the Nebbiolo grapes to reach optimal ripeness. This resulted in a wine that is expressive, balanced, and a true reflection of its exceptional vintage.

The Cascina Tolina vineyard is located in the villages of Treiso and Neviglie in DOCG Barbaresco. It covers a single contiguous plot, uncommon in the Langhe, and comprises almost an entire hill, shaped in a natural amphitheatre, with altitudes ranging from 250 to 350 meters. The Guyot-trained vines face south to southeast, providing optimum exposure to sunlight. They were planted in 1950 at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare and in 2001 at 5,000 vines per hectare. The steeper slopes have a harder, more compact subsoil, with a very shallow layer of topsoil that is more vulnerable to erosion. The soils are rich in magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium microelements. They are ideal for producing austere, tannic wines rich in structure and mineral aromas. In short, they are the classic soil suitable for Nebbiolo. Tulin probably refers to someone who owned or lived on this property in the past: in the Piedmontese dialect, the word ‘Tulin’ means a small tin container, and the “tulé” was the tinsmith.
