Taste Profile & Structure
This off-dry Riesling strikes the perfect balance between fruit-driven sweetness and crisp acidity, making it an excellent choice for those who enjoy a wine that’s neither too sweet nor too dry. The residual sugar of 18.4g/L offers just the right touch of sweetness, while the wine’s zesty citrus notes add freshness and brightness. Each bottle reflects the distinct terroir and microclimates of the Marlborough vineyards, contributing to its elegant and aromatic profile. The long finish is smooth, with subtle hints of minerality, making it a perfect companion for a wide range of dishes, including seafood, Asian cuisine, and light appetisers.
Sustainability and Craftsmanship
Lake Chalice takes pride in its commitment to sustainability, as reflected in its certification as a Sustainable Winegrower of New Zealand. Winemaker Chloe Gabrielsen adopts a boutique approach, handcrafting small parcels of fruit from single vineyards to produce wines that are both elegant and expressive. The Falcon Riesling is no exception, offering a quality-driven wine that reflects the diverse biodiversity and unique terroir of Marlborough.

Winery | The fruit is harvested from a single vineyard, the Walsh block, in the Woodbourne area of Marlborough's central Wairau region. The berries are carefully selected at harvest time and are picked at an average of only 19.8 Brix to retain the fresh citrus flavours. The vineyard's stony, sandy soil results in low yields of intensely flavoured fruit from various pruning methods. Lake Chalice was established in 1989 with a vision of producing internationally recognized wines from the heart of the Marlborough region. New Zealand’s native falcon, the ‘Karearea’, is proudly displayed on every bottle of Lake Chalice wine. Karearea favours the remote mountains and foothills of the upper Awatere and Wairau valleys, which are home to Lake Chalice’s three unique vineyard sites. Each vineyard has a diverse microclimate, biodiversity, and terroir, seamlessly translated into multi-award-winning wines by talented winemaker Chloe Gabrielsen. Taking a boutique approach, she handcrafts parcels of fruit from single vineyards into elegant, aromatic, fruit-driven wines and has garnered a global reputation for outstanding quality.
