The Ktima Gerovassiliou Epanomi Chardonnay 2023 offers an aromatic experience that beautifully captures the essence of Greece's Macedonia region. A wine that exudes refinement, it opens with a symphony of perfumed aromas of melon, ripe pineapple, and zesty lemon, mingling harmoniously with rich, toasty butterscotch notes. On the palate, this Chardonnay is opulent and full-bodied, showcasing a richly oaked texture. The 2022 growing season in Epanomi presented a late-ripening year, marked by moderate rainfall in the autumn, which replenished groundwater levels after a hot and dry summer. The mild winter conditions and delayed pruning due to rainfall allowed for a late bud break in March, approximately 15 days later than usual. However, with ample rainfall and normal temperatures in the spring, growth flourished, and flowering took place in mid-May. The summer was marked by average temperatures, without any extreme weather events, allowing the Chardonnay to ripen perfectly. The grapes were harvested on 12th August under optimal conditions.

| Winery | The Chardonnay vines have been cultivated on the estate since 1983. The soil is mainly sandy, with some clayey substrates and calcareous rocks. It is rich in sea fossils, as sea deposits formed the surrounding hilly area. The climate in the region of Epanomi is Mediterranean, with mild winters and hot summers tempered by sea breezes, as the sea surrounds the vineyard on three sides. This is a low-yielding vineyard, which is meticulously cultivated in compliance with ecologically sustainable management practices. The vineyard is managed by hand, including the harvest. Ktima Gerovassiliou is Evangelos Gerovassiliou's brainchild. In 1981, he initiated the revival of the family vineyard by planting the nearly extinct Malagousia. This state-of-the-art winery is now surrounded by 80 hectares of meticulously well-cared and certified sustainable vineyards on the slopes of Epanomi. Ktima Gerovassiliou guarantees consistent, high-quality wines of international acclaim yearly, and his Malagousia remains the benchmark. |
