Tasting Notes
Discover the brilliance of Kooyong’s iconic single-vineyard Chardonnay – the 2021 Farrago – crafted from a select 0.7-hectare plot of 24-year-old vines nestled in the highly regarded Farrago block. Distinguished by its ironstone-rich clay soils, this wine radiates purity, minerality, and elegance.
Fermented using native yeasts in French oak barriques (20% new), and aged on lees for 11 months without stirring (battonage), this wine was bottled unfined and lightly filtered to preserve its vibrancy and structure.
Expect an aromatic bouquet of grapefruit peel, citrus blossom, and white peach, layered with hints of gunflint, creamy yogurt, and savoury biscuit. The palate delivers intensity and finesse – driven by blood orange pith, a precise mineral-acid backbone, subtle phenolic grip, and a soft mid-palate creaminess that finishes long, clean, and utterly refreshing.
A cellar-worthy Chardonnay that’s equally seductive now.
97 Points – Halliday Wine Companion
“This is complex, fabulous and a delight to drink. Blame it on the flavours, the palate, the verve... lemon and lime oil, grapefruit, mandarin peel, nutty lees and a mineral-acid thread teasing this to an outrageously long finish. Simply stunning.” – Jane Faulkner
Winemaker's Notes
