Discover the Elegance of Kooyong Estate Pinot Noir 2023
Kooyong Estate Pinot Noir 2023 is a sophisticated and expressive red wine from Australia's Mornington Peninsula, crafted from a blend of fruit sourced from the renowned Meres, Haven, Ferrous, and Nord vineyard blocks. This cuvée delivers a seamless reflection of the Kooyong vineyard’s diverse soils and mesoclimates. The consistent use of these specific blocks each vintage ensures the wine maintains its signature character and finesse.
Winemaking & Vinification
To preserve and enhance the natural character of the grapes, fermentation occurred spontaneously using wild ambient yeasts in a combination of large-format oak vats, concrete tanks, and open-top stainless steel fermenters. A portion of whole bunches was included, contributing texture and complexity. The wine remained on skins for 16 to 18 days before being pressed and transferred to French oak barriques and puncheons (14% new oak) for 12 months of maturation. Indigenous malolactic fermentation followed, and the wine was bottled without fining and with only minimal filtration—emphasising purity and terroir.
Tasting Notes
Aroma
Captivating aromatics of dark cherry, red cherry, crushed strawberry, and pomegranate are lifted by hints of blood orange peel and subtle earthy spice. A delicate thread of toasted French oak adds dimension without overshadowing the fruit.
Palate
The palate showcases a vibrant medley of red fruits—cherry, raspberry, and wild berries—supported by elegant tannins and a fine-grained structure. A lively acid line brings clarity and length to the finish, enhancing the wine’s balance and aging potential.
