El Enemigo Valle de Uco Mendoza Syrah Viognier 2022 is an elegant, small-production Argentine red wine, seamlessly blending Syrah (with a touch of Viognier) from the high-altitude vineyards of Gualtallary, Tupungato. Crafted by legendary winemaker Alejandro Vigil at Bodega Aleanna, this vintage showcases the distinct terroir of Mendoza's Uco Valley—an area celebrated for its intense aromatics, mineral texture, and striking acidity.

Vineyard Location and Terroir

Grown at extreme altitudes, the Syrah hails from vineyards sitting at 1470 metres (4822 feet) above sea level, planted in pure calcareous soils, which impart a lifted minerality and fine tannic structure. The Viognier, sourced from 1400 metres (4593 feet), comes from deep-calcareous, rocky soils, adding floral aromatics and bright freshness.

Winemaking and Fermentation

Fermented naturally with wild yeasts, the grapes underwent a controlled fermentation peaking at 28°C (82°F) for 15 days, followed by an extended 20-day maceration for optimal colour and flavour extraction. The wine was aged gracefully for 16 months in 100-year-old foudres, ensuring gentle micro-oxygenation while preserving varietal purity and elegance.

Tasting Notes

Expect deep, vibrant notes of blackberry, plum, and black pepper, intertwined with subtle hints of violet, white flowers, and smoked earth. The palate is textured and complex, driven by lively acidity (6.1 g/L) and a refined pH of 3.03, delivering excellent balance and a long, mineral-laced finish. Alcohol sits at a harmonious 13.5% vol, maintaining finesse and drinkability.
