Crafted exclusively from 100% Tempranillo grapes grown in the revered Rioja Alavesa region of Spain, Badiola Tempranillo de Laderas 2021 offers a stunning expression of precision winemaking. Winemaker Tao Platon meticulously selects grapes from sloping vineyards ("laderas") to craft a wine that is both pure and elegant.

On the nose, you’ll discover vibrant aromas of ripe cherries and red berries, beautifully layered with subtle hints of thyme and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is textured and refined, displaying a harmonious balance between fresh natural acidity, concentrated fruit, and firm yet fine-grained tannins.

Vinification and Ageing

The grapes are hand-sorted to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used. Fermentation takes place in 12,000-litre stainless steel tanks using selected yeasts at moderate temperatures, with daily pump-overs to maximise the extraction of colour, flavour and tannins.

Approximately one-third of the wine is matured for five months in 225L and 300L French and American oak barrels (second and third fill), imparting texture and length without overwhelming oak character. The remaining wine is aged in stainless steel tanks on fine lees, which enhances complexity and mouthfeel. The result is a red wine that captures the distinctive minerality and freshness of Rioja Alavesa’s limestone soils.
