This vintage is dry with a delicate balance of smoothness and structure, offering a rich mouthfeel complemented by a harmonious blend of fruit, mineral, and floral notes.
Tasting Notes:
On the nose, the wine opens with inviting aromas of ripe pear and juicy peach, which are subtly layered with mineral nuances and delicate floral undertones. As you take a sip, the wine reveals a creamy texture, with honeyed sweetness that adds a layer of complexity without overwhelming the palate. The wine is elegantly dry with a refined, crisp finish, making it an ideal match for a variety of dishes, from seafood to creamy pasta dishes.
The 2021 vintage, from which this 2022 release comes, benefited from an unusually warm year, resulting in a wine that displays exceptional depth and intensity. The cooler winter and the dry spring set the stage for a productive growing season, with medium-hot summer temperatures and a late burst of warm weather in September. Winery | Timorasso is an ancient Piedmontese grape variety on the verge of extinction in the 1980s. Pre-phylloxera used to be an important variety, but it fell out of favour as a delicate, low-yielding variety to cultivate. However, it is now enjoying a resurgence in popularity. The vines are grown in the Colli Tortonesi DOC, where the climate is warm and has a Mediterranean feel. The wine takes its name ‘Derthona’ from the traditional name in the local dialect for the town of Tortona. The grapes for this wine are grown in various vineyard sites in and around Monleale. They are from southeastern to southwestern, facing vineyards, maximising the vine’s exposure to the afternoon sun and encouraging the grapes to reach full maturity. The soil comprises calcareous marl, in which the Timorasso vines thrive. The vines are hand-harvested. |
