The grapes come from two hectares of estate vines in the Barolo Cru of “Lazzarito” in Serralunga d’Alba, a fabulous amphitheatre-shaped plot with southwestern exposure. Serralunga d’Alba is the furthest east of the Barolo communes, where the soil is rich in limestone and clay; these soils are some of the oldest in the region, poor, unfertile, and white calcareous, which brings saline minerality and tension to the wine. The estate vines are planted between 330 and 380 meters above sea level. The average age of the Guyot-trained vines is 43 years, and they are planted at a density of around 4,500 vines per hectare. They are cultivated sustainably and are hand-harvested in October.
