- It is an impressive wine with concentrated blackcurrant and strawberry flavours complemented by long and intense vanilla. It is a smooth, opulent, and elegant wine where the character of Sangiovese and the fascination with Cabernet Sauvignon combine to yield an intense wine with scents of sour black cherry and subtle hints of vanilla and spice.

The grapes were destemmed and pressed. Fermentation occurs in specially designed vinification tanks that allow a long and constant maceration on the skins, where the cap is constantly submerged. The wine was then racked off into five-hectolitre Allier tonneaux, where it was aged for a further 18 months. The wine was then refined in a bottle for a further six months before release.

Winery | This wine is named after the small and picturesque hamlet 'Liano' on the hills above Castel San Pietro in Emilia Romagna. The vines, which have an average age of 20 years, are grown in calcareous and clay soils. For Umberto Cesari, producing good wine in Emilia Romagna was a family tradition. Umberto and his wife Giuliana started their company in 1965 when they bought 20 hectares of land in the hills. Their ambition was to turn Sangiovese into a great wine, reflecting the typicity of the area. The winery has continually expanded, and today, the estate extends over 355 hectares divided into distinct vineyards: La Casetta, Parolino, Cà Grande, Laurento, Liano, Claterna, Miravalle and Tauleto, each of which provides the perfect micro-climate for the vines planted. Their estate is sustainably cultivated and certified sustainable by SQNPI. As pioneers of quality, this family-run estate wins numerous accolades every year and has been awarded 'IWSC Italian Winemaker of the Year' four times in the last 15 years. The estate is now in the hands of Umberto’s son, Gianmaria Cesari, who follows in Umberto's footsteps. |
