Overview of Umberto Cesari Costa di Rose Rubicone Sangiovese 2023

The Umberto Cesari Costa di Rose Rubicone Sangiovese 2023 is a premium rosé that perfectly captures the essence of the Emilia Romagna region in Italy. Made entirely from Sangiovese grapes, this wine offers an aromatic experience that is both refreshing and vibrant. The wine showcases a delicate, antique pink hue that hints at its refined character and gentle production process.

Tasting Notes

This rosé offers an enticing bouquet of fragrant floral and fruity aromas, including violet, wild strawberry, and pomegranate. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing, with a harmonious balance between acidity and delicate fruit flavors. A subtle note of Sangiovese dried plum emerges on the finish, adding a classic touch to the clean, fresh style of the wine. The bright acidity and light body make it an ideal choice for casual sipping or pairing with lighter dishes such as seafood or fresh salads.

Winemaking Process

The grapes for the Costa di Rose were gently pressed to extract the juice, which was kept in brief contact with the skins for less than one hour to achieve its characteristic light pink color. The must was clarified by gravity, ensuring minimal intervention in the winemaking process, and then fermented at cool temperatures with selected yeasts. This careful approach preserved the freshness and purity of the fruit, resulting in a wine that is crisp, clean, and true to its origins. The wine was matured in stainless steel tanks to maintain its freshness and avoid any overpowering influences from oak.

The Sangiovese grapes are grown in IGT Rubicone, in Emilia Romagna, in the ‘Podere Parolino’ single vineyard, which boasts twin exposures, both north-northwest and east-southeast, offering the ideal habitat for white grapes on one side and black grapes on the other. The vines have an average age of 10 years and are trained according to the Guyot system, which facilitates balanced productivity in the vineyard. The soils are made up of softer sedimentary rocks, are clay-rich, and have been extensively eroded by wind and water. Combining clay soils and the mild climate promotes ideal conditions for premium viticulture. Careful canopy management ensures the optimum amount of sunlight and shade, encouraging the clusters to reach optimum maturity. The vineyards are cultivated following sustainable principles.
