Tasting Notes

The 2023 vintage opens with enticing aromas of sun-ripened apricot, juicy pineapple, and hints of citrus blossom. On the palate, it is richly textured and well-structured, with a distinctive streak of alpine minerality. The finish is long and crisp, marked by excellent freshness and finesse.

Why Choose Tramin Glarea Chardonnay 2023?

  • 100% Chardonnay from a high-altitude vineyard in the Trentino-Alto Adige region

  • Fermented and matured in oak barrels for added depth and complexity

  • Sustainably cultivated vines; hand-harvested grapes

  • A wine that pairs beautifully with seafood, roast chicken, and creamy pasta dishes

Vineyard & Winemaking

The Glarea vineyard, nestled between 220 and 280 metres above sea level, lies at the base of the Mendel Mountain Range. Its gravel-rich, limestone soil and unique microclimate — defined by warm days and cool nights — result in grapes with vibrant acidity and concentrated flavour. The grapes were gently pressed and fermented in oak barrels at 19°C, followed by partial malolactic fermentation and 11 months' ageing in oak casks, including barriques, tonneaux, and large 12-hectolitre barrels.

Awards & Recognition

  • Gambero Rosso “3 Bicchieri” award (Cantina Tramin has won it 20 times)

  • Double Stella award 2011 for consistent excellence

  • Recognised for sustainable and herbicide-free vineyard practices

Vintage Overview – 2023

The 2023 vintage in Alto Adige benefited from a mild winter, early budburst, and an optimal autumn harvest period. Despite the challenges of summer heat and early September rain, careful vineyard management led to exceptional grape quality. This vintage delivers juicy freshness, aromatic purity, and excellent balance.

Located in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of Italy, the Glarea vineyard is situated in the
lower part of the alluvial fan of the Höllenbach stream, where the soil is composed of
limestone and gravel. The name Glarea stems from Rhaeto-Romance language and
means a pile of gravel, a clear reference to the composition of the soil in the vineyards.
The fan’s sedimented rocks originate from the highest peaks of the Mendel Mountain
range, which includes the Roen at 2116 metres. Due to the weight of the cool
downslope winds that pick up at night, the cool air amasses in the Glarea vineyards.
The relatively low altitude of the vineyard, which sits between 220 and 280 metres
above sea level, combined with the vicinity of the valley floor, creates a special
microclimate which is characterised by a strong diurnal temperature variation. During
the day, the Glarea vineyards benefit from very warm temperatures, while at night and
during the early morning hours, fresh air masses make the temperature drop, retaining
natural freshness in the grapes. The Guyot-trained vines are cultivated without the use
of herbicides and are hand- harvested
