Why Choose Paul Jaboulet Ainé Domaine de Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage 2016?

A True Expression of Rhône Valley Syrah

Produced exclusively from 100% Syrah grapes, the 2016 vintage showcases the distinct terroir of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. On the nose, it opens with aromas of ripe blackberry, red cherry, and crushed raspberry, interwoven with subtle black pepper, liquorice, and a hint of violet. These complex layers reflect both the varietal character and the Rhône’s unique soil composition.

Elegant, Medium-Bodied Structure

With an ABV of 13.5% and just 1 g/L of residual sugar, this is a dry, medium-bodied red wine that appeals to Syrah lovers seeking balance and freshness. The supple tannins and vibrant acidity frame the generous fruit core, leading to a long, graceful finish marked by minerality and gentle spice.

Vegan-Friendly and Thoughtfully Crafted

This wine is suitable for vegans and vegetarians, as it is produced without the use of animal-derived fining agents. While not certified organic or biodynamic, Paul Jaboulet Ainé’s commitment to sustainability ensures environmentally mindful vineyard practices.

The Crozes-Hermitage vineyard is the largest of the northern appellations, extending over 11 communes in the Drôme, located on the left bank of the Rhône. Domaine de Thalabert, property of Paul Jaboulet Aîné since 1834, is the oldest vineyard in the
appellation. Their deeply rooted, old vines were planted between 1934 and 1975, yielding 30 to 35hl/ha. Situated on the low terraces of the Rhône, the vines are planted mostly in north-south facing rows and are predominantly trained on Cordon
de Royat systems. However, some are Gobelet trained on wire or stakes. The soils are of stony and glacial origin and comprise small, rounded pebbles which store heat during the day and release it at night. The interactions of living organisms are beneficial
to the health of the vineyard. Therefore, in the heart of the Thalabert vineyard, a seven-hectare wildlife reservoir has been established. It is the first LPO biodiversity refuge in the Drôme.
