Tasting Notes
Lake Chalice The Nest Marlborough Pinot Gris 2023 is an elegantly crafted wine that showcases the very best of New Zealand's renowned Marlborough region. On the nose, it greets you with aromas of freshly cut pear, enhanced by delicate peach undertones. The palate is beautifully balanced, revealing ripe pear, juicy peach, tropical passionfruit, and a subtle hint of spice that lingers on the finish. This Pinot Gris has a soft, round texture, making it exceptionally smooth and easy to drink, with a refreshing finish that invites you to take another sip.
Vineyard and Vintage Conditions
The 2023 vintage in Marlborough experienced typical warm conditions during October, November, and December, which allowed for an excellent fruit set. However, an unusually wet and cold February posed a risk of disease, creating concerns about the harvest's success. Fortunately, the dry period from late February through to mid-March provided the perfect conditions for the grapes to thrive. With outstanding autumn weather, marked by warm days and cool nights, the fruit reached optimal ripeness, ensuring a high-quality harvest and a wine of exceptional character.
Food Pairing
This Pinot Gris pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes. Consider enjoying it with seafood, particularly grilled prawns or a delicate white fish, or pair it with creamy pasta dishes. The wine's balance of fruit and spice also complements mild cheeses, such as brie or goat cheese.

Winery | The fruit for this wine is predominantly sourced from selected vineyards in the flood plains of Marlborough's lower Wairau Valley. The eastern flood plain soils are nutrient-rich silty loam, renowned for delivering fruit-forward notes. To capture the maximum expression of regional characteristics, the pruning, irrigation, and canopy management are dictated by each variety and each unique block of land. Lake Chalice was established in 1989 with a vision of producing internationally recognised wines from the heart of the Marlborough region. New Zealand’s native falcon, the ‘Kārearea’, is proudly displayed on every bottle of Lake Chalice wine. Karearea favours the remote mountains and foothills of the upper Awatere and Wairau valleys, home to Lake Chalice’s three unique vineyard sites. Each vineyard has a diverse microclimate, biodiversity, and terroir, seamlessly translated into multi-award-winning wines by talented winemaker Chloe Gabrielsen. Taking a boutique approach, she handcrafts parcels of fruit from single vineyards into elegant, aromatic, fruit-driven wines and has garnered a global reputation for outstanding quality.
