El Enemigo Valle de Uco Chardonnay 2023
El Enemigo Valle de Uco Chardonnay 2023
100% Chardonnay
Origin: Gualtallary, Tupungato, 1470 masl / 4822 ft.
Overview
El Enemigo Valle de Uco Chardonnay 2023 is a pristine expression of the Uco Valley’s cool-climate terroir. Produced by Bodega Aleanna under the meticulous guidance of renowned winemaker Alejandro Vigil, this exceptional wine is crafted from 100% Chardonnay sourced from the high-altitude Gualtallary vineyard. The unique conditions of this vineyard, situated at over 1470 meters (4822 feet) above sea level, contribute to the wine’s purity, freshness, and complexity. The soil, a deep, calcareous, rocky matrix, ensures low yields, which further concentrates the flavours of the grapes.
Vineyard & Terroir
The vineyard’s high altitude in the Uco Valley offers a dramatic diurnal temperature shift, providing perfect ripening conditions while maintaining the grape’s natural acidity. This is especially important for Chardonnay, as it thrives in these cooler, higher elevations where long ripening periods allow for the development of intense aromatic profiles. The deep, calcareous soil ensures excellent drainage and mineral complexity, resulting in a wine with a distinctive mineral backbone.
Winemaking Process
The El Enemigo Chardonnay 2023 is crafted using a delicate and traditional winemaking approach. After hand-harvesting the grapes, they undergo fermentation in French oak barrels of 500 liters, with 35% new wood. The use of wild yeasts gives the wine an organic expression, and fermentation is carried out at a controlled maximum temperature of 18°C (64°F) over a period of 40 days, preserving the purity and delicacy of the fruit.
Aging
This Chardonnay is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels under a veil of yeast, which adds a layer of complexity and texture to the wine. The 500-litre barrels allow for a gentle maturation process, enhancing the wine's subtlety and elegance while maintaining its vibrant acidity and freshness.
Tasting Notes
The El Enemigo Valle de Uco Chardonnay 2023 boasts an elegant golden colour with green hues. On the nose, the wine reveals a complex bouquet of citrus fruits, white flowers, and a hint of flinty minerality, characteristic of the high-altitude terroir. The palate is round and rich, yet balanced by its bright acidity. The 12 months of oak ageing add depth and a creamy texture, while the underlying minerality lends a crisp, refreshing finish. The wine is incredibly expressive, with layers of flavour that evolve with each sip.

Harvest Report 2021
The 2021 vintage in the Uco Valley experienced cooler-than-average conditions, with slightly increased rainfall and 15-20% fewer degree-days compared to the previous year. Despite the cooler weather, the vintage produced wines with a remarkable balance between acidity and fruit expression. The white varietals, including Chardonnay, were impacted by an October frost, resulting in lower yields but higher quality fruit.
