Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2010 – Exceptional Burgundy Pinot Noir
Overview of Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2010
The Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2010 is a prestigious French wine from the renowned Burgundy Côte de Nuits region. Crafted exclusively from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, this vintage represents the pinnacle of Domaine Ponsot’s winemaking expertise. Sourced from some of the oldest vines within the 3.4-hectare Clos de la Roche vineyard, where Ponsot stands as the largest holder, this wine offers a unique and powerful expression of terroir.
Tasting Notes and Profile
Unlike the more openly expressive Clos St. Denis, this 2010 Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes starts almost mute, revealing only fleeting aromas of wild red berries and earthy nuances upon swirling. However, on the palate, it delivers a commanding presence with impressive size, weight, and muscular structure. The wine’s concentration is amplified by an extraordinary amount of dry extract, which gives it a supple, velvety texture across the mid-palate.
The tannins are firm, intense, and currently well-buried, promising a complex evolution over time. The finish is explosively long, leaving a lasting impression that extends well beyond the initial sip. This Grand Cru Pinot Noir demands patience and is ideally cellared until at least 2032 or beyond to fully appreciate its potential.

Winery | 2010 Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes: (The aggregate size of this holding is 3.4 ha, and Ponsot is easily the largest holder in Clos de la Roche.) In stark contrast to the expressiveness of the Clos St. Denis, this is almost mute and even aggressive swirling liberates only the briefest glimpses of wild red berries and earth notes. There is a superb size and weight to the imposing and overtly muscular flavours that also enjoy an incredible amount of dry extract that confers a supple and seductively textured mouth feel to the highly concentrated mid-palate. The presently buried tannins are intense and markedly firm though not hard on the explosively long finish that seems to go on and on. This should be very special if given sufficient time to reach its apogee. 95-97 points Allen Meadows, Burghound /2032+ |
