About the Wine
An Exceptional Grand Cru Burgundy Pinot Noir
The Domaine Georges Jayer (E. Rouget) Echezeaux Grand Cru 2002 is a masterful expression of Vosne-Romanée terroir from one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines. Crafted by Emmanuel Rouget, the nephew of the legendary Henri Jayer, this vintage represents an outstanding example of aged Grand Cru Pinot Noir with both pedigree and poise.
Wine Tasting Notes
This 2002 Echezeaux delivers an aromatic bouquet brimming with spice, subtle hints of Vosne character, and delicate traces of matured red fruits. Its medium-bodied structure reveals great mid-palate density and richness. The wine is marked by remarkable balance, vibrant tension, and a lingering, complex finish that underscores its Grand Cru status.
Critically, this vintage escapes the high acidity that sometimes affects other 2002 Burgundy reds, offering a harmonious and refined experience. Now at its peak drinking window, it remains cellaring-worthy for another decade or longer.
“94 Points – A beautifully balanced wine with spice, richness, and a lingering finish. Drinking perfectly now.”
— Allen Meadows, Burghound (September 2022)

Winery | (With thanks to Joe Wong and Bonnie Wai). An overtly spicy and beautiful nose shows only traces of secondary fruit and ample Vosne character. There is both good richness and mid-palate density to the utterly delicious medium-bodied flavours that display good underlying tension while culminating in a wonderfully complex, lingering and balanced finale. Moreover, it shows none of the sometimes-shrill acidity of the 2002 reds; thus, the overall sense of balance is lovely. I've had this several times, and it has always shown well. I would add that this beauty is drinking perfectly now for my taste, but it should continue to hold for at least another decade or perhaps more. 94 points Allen Meadows, Burghound, Sept 2022 |
