Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg Grand Cru 1999 – Buy Rare Burgundy Wine Online

Rare Investment-Grade Burgundy from a Legendary Vintage

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg Grand Cru 1999 is a benchmark Burgundy and one of the most collectable red wines in the world. From the legendary 1999 vintage, this exceptional Grand Cru bottling from DRC delivers profound depth, structure, and long-term ageing potential. Stored in ideal conditions at Octavian, this wine is now available in its original wooden case (OWC), 6x75cl in bond (IB), with photos on request.

Tasting Notes – Complex, Powerful, and Intensely Structured

This wine remains strikingly youthful, even more than two decades after bottling. The robe is nearly opaque, reflecting its concentration and intensity. On the nose, there is an extraordinary bouquet of ripe black cherries, exotic spices, and deep earthy undertones — a hallmark of Richebourg terroir.

On the palate, this is a bold, muscular expression of Pinot Noir, medium-plus in body but broad-shouldered and rich in texture. Layers of dark fruit, mineral tension, and firm tannins unfold across the palate. The finish is impressively long, with robust power and endless complexity. This is a wine of grandeur and presence that continues to evolve.

At 17 years old (as of 2017), this vintage was signalling a long life ahead. Estimated maturity: 2024–2045. While structured for ageing, there is enough mid-palate density to make it approachable now with sufficient decanting.

“I believe 1999 is one of the great vintages for this fabled wine.” – Allen Meadows, Burghound (96 Points)

James P., Edinburgh
★★★★☆
“One of the best ’99 Burgundies I’ve tasted. Rich, earthy, and still evolving. Only minor deduction for a slightly tight bottle that needed extended decanting.”

This hasn't budged much since it was bottled and remains almost opaque. It has a notably ripe and gorgeously multidimensional nose of black cherries, spice, and earth. The broad-shouldered and impressively scaled medium-weight-plus flavours are bold and overtly muscular, while the finish retains robust power and stunning length. At age 17, the '99 Richebourg is signalling that it will require 20 to 25 years to peak.
